A gentle art: Our approach to circumcision
As parents, you want the most compassionate and safe approach for your little one. Loved by parents, trusted by doctors, our traditional circumcision method offers exactly that.
While alternative techniques like the ring (plastibell) are popular, they require the baby to be restrained for fifteen minutes and are often used to compensate for lack of specialised skill.
We utilise the time-honored traditional circumcision modality, meticulously updated to ensure the least painful, most comfortable procedure for your baby. With this method, the baby is restrained for only a couple of moments and quickly returned to Mum and Dad very soon after. This approach supports baby’s comfort and offers the easiest recovery.
Smaller, more precise incision
Faster procedure duration
Lowest complication rates
Quicker, more comfortable recovery
Superior cosmetic outcomes

FAQs
What exactly is a circumcision?
Circumcision is the surgical removal of the foreskin from the penis. (The foreskin is the hollow sleeve of skin at the end of the penis which covers the glans and corona). It is one of the most common surgical procedures worldwide, as well as one of the oldest.
How exactly do you perform the circumcision? Which technique do you use?
Prior to the circumcision, we apply a topical local anaesthetic to the area. We isolate the foreskin away from the penis below it, then safely and quickly remove it with a scalpel and apply a Kaolin impregnated bandage in a matter of seconds. This technique allows us to remove this bandage after a few minutes, which is far more comfortable for the baby than any other method and allows the healing process to begin straight away.We do not use stitches, rings, or plastibell. This reduces risks of infection and other complications.
Do you use anaesthetic?
Yes, we apply a topical anaesthetic to reduce pain to the area and a local anaesthetic immediately after the procedure (although on very young children, this is often superfluous). One of the notable benefits of our technique is that it does not require an injected local anaesthetic, which is typically more painful than the procedure itself.
How long does the procedure take?
The actual procedure typically takes less than a minute, around 20-30 seconds. You can expect a total time of 30-45 minutes for examination, prep, observation, and aftercare instructions.
Which supplies do I need to prepare prior to the circumcision?
No need to purchase any supplies. We’ll provide everything you need to care for your baby post-procedure in our aftercare package.
How long does it take to heal after the circumcision?
Since the dressing is removed after only a few minutes, the healing starts immediately, taking 7-10 days to heal fully – and normally, no longer than 2 weeks.
Will my baby be in pain after the circumcision?
Often, the baby is back to their normal self by the time you leave. If your baby is a little more irritable over the next few hours, it will most likely settle quickly. He’ll wear double nappies to give him extra padding and to help keep his legs apart, so don’t be afraid to handle him – it won’t hurt. In all other respects, try to keep his routine as normal as possible.
How should I care for my baby following his circumcision?
You’ll care for him as normal and change him regularly, with the addition of a layer of Vaseline (provided in the aftercare package) by each nappy change. We’ll show you how to do this and you’ll receive written aftercare instructions to refer to, as well. We’ll check in via text at the one-and-two-hour marks to ensure that there’s no new bleeding. And following the circumcision, you can call our priority number 24/7 on the first day for any questions or aftercare advice, with daily availability thereafter for any concerns. You are never on your own!
What age is most ideal for circumcision?
While circumcision can be done at any age, the best age range for circumcision is from birth to 1 month old (provided that there are no health issues). At this age, your baby feels less, isn’t as aware as an older child, and experiences faster healing. We do, however, offer circumcision for babies up to 6 months old.
Are there any risks associated with circumcision?
The procedure is usually straightforward with no complications. For optimum safety and risk prevention, our circumcisions are performed using single-use sterile instruments. Rarely, bleeding may develop later (in less than 1 in 300 cases). This is usually easily controlled by redressing the wound and can be detected promptly by checking the baby regularly in the hours following the circumcision. We will check the baby before you go home. Infection attributable to circumcision is very rare (less than 1 in 5000 cases).
Are your circumcision services appropriate for Muslim or African families?
Yes, we have circumcised hundreds of Muslim and African babies. Our service is non-denominational and appropriate for every family, no matter their cultural or religious orientation.
What is a Bris Milah (ritual Jewish circumcision)?
Mazal Tov on the birth of your new baby boy! Assuming your baby is in good health, then as per Halachah, a Bris Milah (circumcision) is performed on the 8th day after birth. So it’s important to get in touch with a qualified Mohel as soon as possible after birth.Bris Milah, is a combination of two words: “Bris”, meaning covenant, and “Milah”, meaning circumcision. Through the Milah (circumcision), the child enters the covenant (Bris) between G-d and Jewish people. The practice of Bris Milah has been cherished by Jews throughout the generations. The Tur (Medieval Halachic Sefer) writes that it is the greatest of all the Mitzvos (commandments) in the Torah.Rabbi Zev Freilich is an experienced Mohel (with over 1,600 Milahs to date) and he will be delighted to provide a kosher, gentle Bris Milah for your baby. Rabbi Zev Freilich is registered with the Initiation Society of the UK and is authorised to practice Bris Milah by the Chief Rabbi.Your baby’s Bris Milah will be in accordance with Halachah (Orthodox Jewish practice) and for optimum safety is performed using single-use sterile instruments.
A perfect circumcision for your perfect child is just a call away.
